With spring rains, mushrooms grow in abundance in steppes, in meadows and in the few woods of the region. The picking is a very popular activity, and many people of Shymkent and South Kazakhstan use to do it.
The picked mushrooms will be enjoyed with family and friends, or will be sold in large amounts in markets and along roads. Others will be pickled and canned to be consumed later.
