Former orthodox cathedral converted, the regional puppets theatre is located 34, Kazybek Bi Street, at the back of Ken Baba Park.

The Nikolsky cathedral was built at the beginning of the XXth century (presumably in 1914), then closed in 1920 and its dome was removed.
The building has undergone many modifications over the political changes, housing several cultural and educational institutions, such as the agricultural school or the Palace of Pioneers. The third floor was added in 1952.
Eventually, the puppets theatre was created in 1983, and restored in 2011.

This building is considered as one of the best representation in South Kazakhstan of the Russian architectural style of religious edifices in red bricks.

Puppets shows are performed every Sunday, in Russian or Kazakh languages. Displays in Kazakh languages are recommended to Russian-speaker people: the entertaining and educational approach will help them to understand the story and to learn the language too.

In front of the show hall is an exhibition room of ancient and contemporary puppets.

Show every Sunday at 12 am (except summer holidays) – Admission 300/400 tg.
